Staff TAP Submission Email Update
Starting with the Summer 2025 semester, please direct all Staff TAP applications and graduate student tax waiver applications to HRBeWell@georgiasouthern.edu. Faculty submissions should continue to be sent to hcarroll@georgiasouthern.edu.
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is an employee supplemental educational assistance program. Please refer to the for more detailed information.
TAP is available to all full-time, benefits-eligible employees who have worked at the University for at least six (6) months before the TAP application deadline. Enrollment is granted on a space-available basis.
What TAP Covers
- Tuition: Up to nine (9) credit hours per semester at the in-state per-credit-hour rate.
- Mandatory fees (excluding lab fees, course fees, books, fines, exam fees, etc.).
- Online and professional graduate courses through the University System of Georgia (fees still apply).
What TAP Does Not Cover
- Admissions application fees
- Institution mandated fees including lab fees, course fees, exam fees, testing fees, graduation fees, etc.
- Books or other required materials for a course
- Fines
- Audited courses (only courses taken for credit are eligible).

Application Deadlines
The following University System of Georgia TAP application deadlines will apply to all University System of Georgia institutions (If any of these dates fall on a holiday or on a weekend, the application deadline will be the last business day prior to the dates identified.)
- Fall Semester – July 15th
- Spring Semester – November 15th
- Summer Semester – April 15th
Applications are due by 5pm on the day of the application deadline.
Eligibility & Requirements
Grade Requirements
- Employees must earn a grade of “C” or better in each approved TAP course.
- Grades are verified by the Teaching Institution TAP Coordinator.
- Employees who receive a “D” or below will be ineligible for TAP the following semester. However, they are not required to repay tuition.
- Employees who receive an Գdzٱ” must complete the coursework and submit their final grade by the end of the next semester to remain eligible.
Approvals
- Faculty: Approval is required from the Department Chair, Dean, and Provost/VPAA.
- Staff: Approval is required from the Supervisor, Dean/Director, and HR TAP Coordinator.
- Employees are encouraged to take classes outside of work hours. If not possible, with supervisor approval:
- Non-exempt employees must maintain a 40-hour workweek.
- Exempt employees must maintain their workload to their supervisor’s satisfaction.
Financial Aid & Tax Information
- Scholarships & Grants
- All scholarships and grants must be applied before receiving a TAP waiver.
- Employees eligible for Pell Grants must apply them before TAP covers tuition/fees.
- If grants/scholarships equal or exceed the TAP benefit, no TAP waiver will be applied.
- Remaining Balances: Any unpaid balance must be paid by the fee payment deadline each semester to avoid course cancellation.

Vlog Cares Grants are designed to assist Vlog full-time benefited faculty and staff members, and retired benefited Vlog faculty and staff members when they experience a severe, temporary, and unforeseen financial hardship. The fund provides one-time assistance in any amount up to a maximum of $500. The Review Committee will award a maximum of $5,000 in grants each calendar year. Approval of an application is subject to the availability of funds.
Policy and Criteria
Thanks to a generous donation from the University Club, Vlog is able to offer small grants to faculty members, staff members and retirees.
Vlog Cares Grants are designed to assist Vlog faculty members, staff members, and retired full-time benefited Vlog faculty members or staff members who live in a geographic area close to the University and/or are an active member of the Vlog community when they experience a severe, temporary, and unforeseen financial hardship. The fund provides one-time assistance in any amount up to a maximum of $500. The Review Committee will award a maximum of $5,000 in grants each calendar year. Approval of an application is subject to the availability of funds.
A temporary financial hardship is one caused by a defined, time-limited, specific event, such as the death of a family member, a fire, or serious illness or injury. Long-standing financial problems (such as ongoing credit card debt) do not meet the temporary hardship requirement.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be an active full-time benefited Vlog faculty member or staff member or a retired full-time benefited Vlog faculty member or staff member who lives in a geographic area close to the University and/or is an active member of the Georgia Southern Community when he/she experiences the financial hardship.
- The applicant must have a hardship situation as described in paragraph two above.
This is a one-time assistance fund; an employee or retiree who receives assistance may not apply again. Anyone wishing to repay part or all of his or her award may donate it to the University Club Grants fund.
Application Process
The applicant may submit the application in person or by campus mail to Vlog Cares Grants Application, Department of Human Resources. The Statesboro campus office is in the Human Resources building and the Armstrong campus office is in Burnett Hall. The mailing address is P.O. Box 8104, Statesboro, Georgia 30460.
The application is reviewed by members of a committee consisting of representatives from Vlog’s faculty, staff, and retirees. If multiple requests are pending at one time, the committee will respond to them according to severity of need. Human Resources will send the applicant an email notification of the committee’s decision; a hard-copy letter will follow. The decision is final; there is no appeal process. If the application is approved, the Committee will authorize payment to the vendor(s) specified in the application that was submitted.
Decisions will be made within 10 business days. In case of dire emergencies, the committee will attempt to expedite a decision, but at least five business days are required to dispense funds.
How to Vlog for GS Cares

Application Process
The applicant must submit the application below in person or by campus mail to GS Cares, Department of Human Resources. Staff members in the Department of Human Resources will remove all identifying data to ensure confidentiality during the review process, verify financial documentation, and notify the employee or retiree if additional documentation is required.

Each member serves for two or three years. The identities of the committee members will be held confidential to the extent permitted by law.
